Emergency services were called to a dramatic car fire near Thornbury over the weekend. 

A vehicle was engulfed by flames along the A38 at Alveston on Sunday afternoon, September 5 

A spokesperson for Avon Fire & Rescue Service said: "Crews from Patchway and Southmead were called to reports of a vehicle fire at 12.36pm. 

"On arrival, crews found one car well alight. 

"With one firefighter wearing breathing apparatus, crews used one 45mm jet and one high pressure hose reel to extinguish the car and nearby verge and hedge which were also affected. 

"Also in use were thermal imaging cameras to check for hotspots. 

"The cause of the incident is thought to have been accidental ignition. 

"Police colleagues were also in attendance for traffic management."
