SHOPPERS got into the festive mood with two seasonal specials organised by the Arts and Community in Thornbury team.

They joined performers of all ages on Saturday to sing carols around the Christmas tree in the St Mary Centre.

Among those providing the entertainment were primary school pupils, teenagers, community choirs, the U3A recorder group and students of the Northavon School of Drama.

Later in the evening, the traditional Mumping Night started with a procession from the centre and through the town, stopping along the way to The Chantry to sing carols.

After a wassail cup and mince pie, the Lord of Misrule oversaw a variety of entertainment from a magic show and music to historical tales and community singing.

There was also an insight into notable guests who had stayed at Thornbury Castle, a mummers' play and handbell ringing.
