ALLEGED Dursley shed burglar, Daniel Savory, has been locked up until his trial after he failed to attend Gloucester Crown Court just before Christmas.

Savory, 34, of Rosebery Mount, Dursley, admitted on Tuesday, January 7 that he had breached his bail by not attending a hearing of his case on Tuesday, December 17.

His solicitor, Sarah Jenkins, said the reason he did not attend that day was because the police had told him they would be at court to arrest him in connection with a further allegation of burglary.

Savory feared that might mean him being remanded in custody over Christmas so he decided to stay away from court to ensure he could spend the festive season with his family, she said.

Judge Jamie Tabor QC said it had been 'very honest' of Savory to admit the reason for his absence.

He told Savory that by jumping bail he had forfeited his right to freedom pending trial and he remanded him in custody.

The case was adjourned until Friday, January 17 for a plea and case management hearing and trial is listed for Monday, February 3.

Savory is alleged to have burgled and stolen from six sheds in the Dursley area.

Co-defendant Daryl Ash, 38, also of Rosebery Mount, has admitted similar offences and is due to be sentenced on Friday, January 31.
