A HAIR stylist from Cam has opened her first business in the village within four weeks of spotting an advert in a local directory.

Shear Delight started trading last weekend with an open day on Saturday, February 8, showing off its new refurbished interior.

The joint venture by mum-of-one Margaret Chandler, 33, and her sister-in-law Nikki McCallum, is on the site of the former Hair Dimensions salon in Phillimore Road.

A further family member has since joined the business, with niece Rachael Graham providing nail care at the salon.

Mrs Chandler is now looking for other stylists seeking work opportunities to join her at the new salon, offering chairs for hire for £70 per week.

It’s been a roller-coaster start to 2014 for Margaret, who was browsing business websites in the New Year, seeking a new challenge.

She spotted the premises being up for sale and, with nine years experience in hairdressing behind her, she decided to take the plunge.

“I was looking for something different but I never imagined it would happen so quickly. It’s really exciting,” she said.

“It was a real stroke of luck to find an opportunity like this so close to home.

“We’ve been open for a few days now and it’s been really busy already, which is a great sign. I’ve been here until 9pm some nights.”

The Woodfield resident added she was looking forward to becoming part of the business community by offering a relaxed and child-friendly atmosphere in the salon.

“It’s a real family venture for us all and it’s great to have the doors open with customers coming in.”

Mrs Margaret’s planning to stick to hairdressing for now but with space at the rear of the salon has aspirations to develop the business to offering beauty treatments in future.
