A NEW play scheme is set to be piloted on some of Dursley’s residential streets. Playing Out is a street play event led by neighbours for neighbours to restore street play as a normal and healthy part of everyday life.
The emphasis is on free, unstructured play and people usually bring out their own toys including skipping ropes, bikes, scooters.
Children are simply given the space and permission to play in the street, whilst adults have a chance to meet and get to know their neighbours better.
To make this possible, a residential road is temporarily closed for a couple of hours on a Sunday afternoon, with volunteer stewards at each end to redirect through traffic and escort residents' cars in and out safely.
Dursley Town Council is keen to hear from residents to see if they are interested in taking part, otherwise events cannot go ahead.
A pilot is planned to take place in Oak Drive in June but residents can let their interest be known for their own street to hold one.
