A SUMMER fete held at a Berkeley nursing home has been hailed as a success after it raised almost £1,000 for its residents.

Breadstone Nursing Home held the event to raise funds for the residents’ welfare and activities fund and a large number of people turned out o show their support and enjoy the festivities on a fine summers’ day.

A number of activities were available on Saturday, July 26 including archery, a raffle, belly dancing, dancing dogs and a pets corner.

Entertainment came in the form of a silver band and everyone was able to enjoy drinks and a barbecue in the glorious sunshine.

With the numerous stalls and the centre selling vegetables grown on its own patch, including cauliflower, cabbages, potatoes, leeks, chilli, tomatoes, beetroots, runner beans, cucumber and carrots, £907 was raised.

Activities co-ordinator Raj Kurian said: “I am glad to say our fete went very well and lots of local people turned in as the weather was excellent.

“Now we are looking forward to arrange many trips and entertainment and I would like to extend my sincere thanks to everyone for their support, especially all the local community groups.”
