ORGANISERS of a three-route cycle ride in Chipping Sodbury are hoping for their best ever turnout when the event returns this Sunday (August 17).

The third annual Sodbury Sportive, which gives participants the choice of a 30, 60 or 100-mile ride, leaves Chipping Sodbury RFC on Wickwar Road at staggered times for 7am.

The town’s Rotary club, which is behind the sportive, is hoping to see up to 1,000 people pedal off this year.

Organiser Stuart Bennett said: “In the first two years the Saddleback Sodbury Sportive has received great feedback from experienced and club riders as a well organised event with some great routes providing a really enjoyable ride.

“The success of the sportive is founded on the challenge it presents to cyclists and the opportunity it affords for raising money for good causes, whether you an experienced rider or a novice the event has something to offer you.”

In its first year in 2012, a total of 378 people took part with the number rising to 629 last year. This year the Rotary club is confident entries will continue to rise.

Routes vary in difficulty but all take in glorious countryside views.

Funds raised will be used by the Rotary club to benefit local and global causes.
