KATHARINE Lady Berkeley’s School in Wotton-under-Edge saw some of its best results in recent years as those achieving grades C or above in their A-levels has risen.

Of 130 students, 66 per cent attained grades of B to A* , a one per cent rise on last year, and those attaining C to A* was 88 per cent, an increase of three per cent.

Headteacher Andrew Harris said it was an extra achievement for them to keep attaining ever better results.

“We’re very pleased, we know that the vast majority of students will be able to take up there first choice at university," he said.

"We’re really pleased they have gained an excellent foundation for their higher education courses or whatever there next stage will be."

This is the first year the students have not been able to take module exams in January, instead facing them all at the end of the year.

"We had to consider how things are constructed and how to take into account," said Mr Harris.

"The staff have worked hard with the students and they have risen to that challenge.

"I think it reflects the hardwork and committement of the teaching staff and similarly the students."

In year 12, 57 per cent of the students gained an B to A grade in their AS level exams, while 78 per cent overall gained a grade from C to A.

Eighteen-year-old Harriet Wallice from Bear Street in Wotton was pleased with her A* in economics and Bs in maths and French as it means she is now set to study economics and finance at Manchester University.

“I am very happy, I was surprised because I was expecting two As in maths and French but the A* proved it didn’t matter,” she said.

“Now I don’t really care because I got the place at university I wanted. I am really looking forward to it, I can’t wait.”

Tabbi Candy, who lives in Kingscote, has put herself in good stead for the following year after she received As in English literature, sociology, a B in psychology and Cs in biology and general studies in her AS results.

The 17-year-old hopes to get into law after she finishes her exams next year.

“I was pleased with my results,” she said.

“I feel like that it’s made me get a good start on my way to my A-levels."
