A YATE Town Council apprentice was awarded with other students at a special ceremony to celebrate their outstanding achievements.

The award ceremony took place on Tuesday, December 16 at the Armadillo Youth Venue to celebrate the achievements of apprentices in the region.

Seven apprentices received awards at the ceremony which were presented by the deputy chief executive of South Gloucestershire Council, David Perry.

Apprentice Lauren Wixon, 20, from Yate Town Council, was awarded for completing her NVQ level two in business administration.

Councillor Ian Blair, who attended the event, said: “Lauren was taken on as an apprentice by Yate Town Council in September 2013 and has been trained in many aspects of office and town council business.

“Lauren has been instrumental in launching social media for Yate Town Council as well as studying hard for her NVQ.

The ceremony, in the venue on Station road, was hosted by South Gloucestershire and Stroud College and ran from 11.30am to 1.30pm including inductions and apprentice speakers.

Cllr Blair added: “The council is delighted that it has been able to offer Lauren a full time permanent position and look forward to supporting her to obtain her NVQ level three and extremely proud to see Lauren receive a well deserved award.”
