CAMEL racing is set to entertain the crowds at the second South Gloucestershire Show next month.

The show, held at The Windmill Fisheries Showground, Westerleigh Road, will return with a packed programme of entertainment and activities following last year’s success.

As a celebration of life in South Gloucestershire and a showcase for lifestyle and leisure in and around the county, more than 18,000 enjoyed the event’s debut, which saw local dance troupes and singing groups perform alongside professional bands and stunt acts across three fields.

The clock is now ticking for the show’s return on the weekend of August 1 and 2, which will once again showcase local bands and artists, with over 250 exhibitors, sports acts and gymnastic displays.

Event manager Darren Hawkins said: “We had a fantastic show last year, everyone seemed to have a brilliant time and we got a lot of great feedback.

“This year is even bigger. We have lots of new activities and entertainment, but we have also kept some favourites – such as the local bands of which we have 32 booked for this time round.

“There will be a free 4x4 experience over the weekend so people can test out their off-road driving, BMX displays for the kids and car shows where we expect around 250 classic cars to feature each day.

“A highlight will be the camel racing we have planned – new entertainment for this year where 24 camels from company 'Joseph's Amazing Camels' will be raced in the main arena to raise funds for the Great Western Air Ambulance Charity, who we supported last year.

“We are expecting a turnout of around 20,000 people this year, weather depending. It’s all about family and fun, and we aim for there to be something for the whole family during the two-day event."

An arts and crafts marquee will host local artists, business owners and weekend crafters while a ‘festival of food’ will offer visitors a variety of treats and the chance of getting acquainted with local food producers.

Gates open for the South Gloucestershire Show at 10.30am. For more information about the show or to request an exhibitor pack visit www.southglosshow.co.uk.
