MORE than 400 people gathered in the centre of Dursley on Saturday for the town’s annual festival.

Dursley Festival, held in Parsonage, was a roaring success, with hot weather and a large turnout.

People of all ages came out and enjoyed a wide range of entertainment and activities - from bubbleology and go-karting to art workshops and animal visitors.

Claire Farragher, of Dursley, played a role in organising last year’s festival, the first time the event was held on Parsonage Street, and was involved again this year on the festival committee.

She said: “It went really well. The weather was obviously a massive help because it was so nice and sunny, but people seemed to have a great time.

“We had really good feedback from families. Those with young children seemed to get a lot out of what was on offer.

“Members of the committee and volunteers were frantic on the day but we think it went great.”

Entertainment on the day included cheerleading from Dursley Diamonds and singing from Dursley Community Choir.

One highlight was the team from Newbrook Farm Equestrian Centre who brought along a lamb, which turned out to be a big hit with youngsters.

“People just show up really positive and everybody involved in entertainment or one of the activities just gets on with it – we wouldn’t be able to do it with such a small group if that wasn’t the case so we are very thankful to everyone that takes part,” Claire continued.

“I think it’s a really positive thing for Dursley and showcases the level of community spirit in the town.

“It’s a good chance to come together for a celebration of Dursley. It may not be perfect but it’s a good opportunity for people to come together."
