A HORSE lover from Olveston is shedding her clothes as she rides on the roads in a bid to slow down passing motorists.

Cimone Johnson, 37, is supporting a campaign which aims to encourage drivers to pass horse riders at a safe speed.

The ‘Slow Down For My Horse’ campaign has seen hundreds of horse riders from all around the world share photos of them riding or walking their horses naked, to shock motorists into slowing down.

She said another incentive was to keep her five children – 15-month old Morgan-Bluebelle, nine-year-old Honey, 11-year-old Finnley, 16-year-old William and 18-year-old Jasmine - safe when they ride, or are old enough to.

“A lot of drivers don’t appreciate how they can really spook horses on the road and it only takes two seconds to think and slow down to avoid an accident,” she said.

“I decided to join in with the campaign as I think it’s good to give the message to drivers – horses were here long before cars which is really important.

“The photos are tasteful pictures too, it’s not at all about showing off your body, it’s about making a statement.

“It really works – people slow down for other things, like looking when there has been a car accident, and they definitely stop when they see someone naked.

“They should slow down when they see children on horses but there are some who still won’t and I want to do something to make sure my children aren’t affected if possible.

“I’ve had a few near misses on the road but thankfully nothing serious yet.”

Mrs Johnson, who works as a detox nurse at Eastwood Park Prison, first posted some pictures of her with her horse on a small track near her house a few weeks ago, but stepped out onto a road – naked with her horse Ebony - for the first time on Tuesday, September 1.

“It really worked, the first car which saw me slowed down lots,” she said.

“I’m definitely going to keep doing it and I would encourage others to do it too.”

“It’s not just about being aware of horses – it should help slow down cars when there’s livestock or even children around too.”

The campaign was started by 17-year-old Jersey girl Lauren de Gruchy, who has gained over 10,000 supporters on her Facebook page.

Mrs Johnson said her friends and family have been extremely supportive of her taking on the challenge, especially her husband Will, 34.

“Everyone think it’s fab that I’m doing it, they’re really pleased for me,” she added.
