FROM helping small businesses reach new customers to visiting managing directors of huge companies, life in the Gazette's advertising team is never dull – as reporter Aaron Sims discovered.

“It is almost like you are running your own business, because you manage your own territory and clients."

For Hannah Dent, who has been with the Gazette for just over three years, the challenges that come with that level of responsibility make the job particularly fulfilling.

The 24-year-old media account manager added: “As a result, it is a fast paced environment, and no two days are the same. The job requires someone who is self-motivated and determined to succeed."

We are currently looking for new members of the advertising team, and Hannah said that whoever gets the job will find that they receive huge support and encouragement.

“You do get a lot of training, coaching and support in the role to get you started, and it gives you the chance to develop your sales techniques.

“All your hard work pays off, ultimately, as there is a really good incentive scheme, bonuses and a company car.”

Kylie Taylor, an advertising account manager, said she thrived on the chance to help businesses reach new customers.

The 27-year-old said: “I like to think of my job as having the chance to help local businesses, whether through advertising a product, an event or a unique selling point – giving them the chance to find the best product to fit them.

“The fact we can offer advertising space in both digital and print form gives a great chance to develop our skills over multiple platforms."

Kylie, who returned to the Gazette recently after a previous spell of around three years, added: “Working with so many different businesses is one of the most interesting things about the job, as one minute you could be dealing with a company director and the next you could be dealing with a local tradesman.

"Plus, it’s a great team to work in. Everyone is friendly and helpful, and there's a mixture of different people which makes it a lot of fun."

She added: “The job is definitely not just office based; we have the opportunity to get out and about all the time to meet clients.

“You really get to know the area that you are covering and you quickly develop the ability to be on top of current events, sometimes even more so than the reporters!”
