HOW many people would say that a public service that offers protection and safety is worth less than an extra 10p a week?

While council tax is one of those things that people grumble about, it does do a lot of good, providing significant funding for services like fire and rescue.

The consultation to make cuts at Yate Fire Station has not been welcomed by many, but with facing such radical cuts, they are left with little other options.

As a result of few other alternatives surfacing, the suggestion by Yate Town Council attempts to give residents some form of ownership in the recovery of the service.

It would be interesting to see just how many people would be willing to dip into their own pocket to ensure the service has their safety at heart.
