PASSING the torch and bringing in new blood is a time-honoured tradition that organisations should be ready to accept.

While Thornbury Town Council might not necessarily require change, it is always good to bring new faces and new ideas to the table, especially in a time where they face the constant pressure of change.

That debate then raises the question, do you opt for someone who has been part of the community for a long time, who knows their area and the changes it has seen, or do you go for a newer face, someone who has been involved elsewhere and seen different methods used?

It is wonderful to see that a number of excellent candidates have come forward to fill the vacant seat on the council, giving councillors a difficult decision.

But while residents may feel assured that their best interests are being served those willing and capable to come forward for the good of the community, they should remember to stay involved themselves and always ensure their voice is heard.
