STAFF at a Nympsfield pre-school are celebrating after Ofsted recognised the centre as ‘good’.

An inspector visited St Joseph’s Pre-school last month and in a report published last week deemed it to be ‘good’ in all assessed areas.

“Conscientious” and “ambitious” management was highlighted as a particularly positive aspect along with its close ties to the adjoining primary school.

Lead practitioner Natalie Powers said that all the staff were “really proud” that their hard work had been recognised by Ofsted.

“We’ve known about what rating we were given and had to sit on it for a while until it was made public which was quite hard.

“We’re all really proud and it shows all the hard work we put in is worthwhile.

“Our very close links to the primary school were pointed out and that is something we place a lot of importance on because it is really useful for teachers and children when they move up to primary school.

“Now, for our last two inspections we have been rated ‘good’ and our goal now is to push on to try and get ‘outstanding’.”

The inspector said that the pre-school’s higher achievers needed to be challenged more and that sometimes staff missed identifying areas for development.

Work is already underway to tackle the two issues with new teaching methods already implemented since the inspection.

St Joseph’s Pre-school has 34 children on its roll and spaces available for two and three-year-olds to start in September.
