AS MANY as 20 cars in Thornbury are believed to have been attacked overnight on Saturday, with licence plates either being stolen or damaged.

The incidents, which are believed to have happened between 11pm on Saturday and 1am on Sunday, took place around Primrose Drive, Kingfisher Close, Kestrel Close and Larkspur Close.

Some eyewitnesses on social media said that the vandals even took to running across cars in a bid to escape after disturbing residents.

While more than dozen cases have been reported, it is believed that others could have been affected.

Police have carried out house to house enquiries and reassurance visits to homes in the affected areas.

Officers have also said that CCTV footage from the One Stop Shop may be examined to assist the investigation.

Primrose Drive resident Moira Tindall, who lives near the shop with her husband Gordon, had their two cars on their drive damaged, with the licence plates on both ripped off.

She said: “I was so angry at the time, thinking why do people have to go around causing senseless damage like this?

“This is not the first time we have had damage caused to cars around here, a couple of years ago, I had the back window of my car smashed with a brick, and have had plants ripped up from my front garden.”

She added that with so many pensioners living in the area, such occurrences can be a scary experience.

She said: “It’s silly little things, but when they keep happening, it is truly frustrating.”
