YATE and District Rotary Club raised money for two good causes at an Abba themed evening earlier this year.

The Decade Dolls' concert raised enough cash to enable the Rotary Club to give £500 to two national charities.

The first donation went to Canine Partners - a charity that trains assistance dogs to help people with disabilities. Members of Yate Rotary Club met a puppy in training recently, with its puppy parent Heather Loane.  When old enough, Bertie will go onto further training with his human partner at the training centre in Hayshot, West Sussex.  There are currently six canine partners in this area in addition to the six puppy parents.  For further details visit www.caninepartners.org.uk

The second charity to benefit was Macmillan Cancer Support, who have 80 health professionals operating across the South Gloucestershire and Bristol area.  Members of Yate Rotary met with Ceris Bradley of Macmillan who told them that £1.3million needs to be raised every year to pay for the current health professionals.  Macmillan reach only one in three cancer patients, so if more money was raised, more could benefit from their support. Patients can either be referred or contact Macmillan directly.  www.macmillan.org.uk
