GLOUCESTERSHIRE musicians are being invited to take part in a project with the BBC.

The BBC Ten Pieces project is an aim to promote classical music to young people across the UK in a bid to inspire them to continue playing.

Gloucestershire Music (the local authority’s music service) is helping to celebrate this venture with the BBC Ten Pieces Day on Saturday, November 4 with all singers and musicians invited.

Gloucestershire county councillor Richard Boyles, cabinet member for children and young people at Gloucestershire County Council said the project was a wonderful introduction to music.

“This is an excellent opportunity for new and experienced players to be part of this incredible musical project, whilst also improving their own skills and making new friends,” he said.

“Ten Pieces is a wonderful introduction to music for lots of children and adults. Everyone loves music so let’s celebrate it together.”

The Gloucestershire Youth Orchestra will also be holding an open session for advanced youth players as they work on Stravinsky’s mighty Firebird Suite.

This event is a chance for people to learn together with GYO members, and visit professional players and students from the Birmingham Conservatoire.

The session will run from 2pm - 7pm at Sir Thomas Rich’s School and is geared towards all brass, wind, string and percussion players’ grade 6+.

Attendance at this session is £30, payable on the day.

To take part in the BBC project, musicians are invited to one of three music centres in the county, the Five Valleys Music Centre at Archway School in Stroud; Brookfield Music Centre in Sir Thomas Rich’s School, Gloucester; or the Forest of Dean Area Wind Band at Five Acres School in Coleford.
