SIX fire crews were called to the M4 last night after a lorry left the motorway leaving the driver trapped.
It happened at 8.07pm on Tuesday (June 17) and involved one vehicle, an HGV, which had left the eastbound carriageway between junctions 19 (M32) and 18 (Tormarton).
The lorry ended up partially in a wooded area.
Six fire engines, from Patchway, Southmead, Temple and Avonmouth stations, attended the scene and firefighters used stabilisation equipment to secure the cab of the vehicle.
Avon Fire and Rescue Service spokesman James Bladon said: “The lorry had left the road at quite a sharp angle so crews were unable to access the driver who was still in the vehicle.
“Once the cab was stabilised they built a platform which allowed them and paramedics to reach the driver.”
No cutting equipment was needed in the rescue and the driver, a man in his fifties, was placed on a stretcher and taken to hospital by paramedics.
