AN INVESTIGATION has begun following a suspicious death at a care home in Yate.

Yesterday lunchtime police were called to Oaktree House on Lark Rise following the sudden death of an 87-year-old woman.

Police officers attended the scene and began an investigation into the circumstances of the death.

Later that afternoon a 33-year-old man was arrested, who is not an employee of the care home, on suspicion of murder and he is currently in custody being questioned about the incident.

The victim’s family have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.

Detective inspector Neil Meade from the Major Crime Investigation Team said this was a tragic but isolated incident.

"Our investigation began yesterday soon after the death was reported to us and continues today. We have one man in custody and we’re not currently looking for anyone else.”
