A SCHOOLBOY from Frampton Cotterell is set to release his first single after coming third in ITV talent show Britain’s Got Talent.

Fifteen-year-old Charlie Lenehan is releasing Hopeful as one half of Bars and Melody, alongside rapper Leondre Devries who he met via Facebook last year.

Their version of the song, originally by Twista and Faith Evans, was rewritten for their first audition on the show by 13-year-old Leondre who was bullied at a previous school.

Their performance at that initial audition in Manchester won them judge Simon Cowell’s golden buzzer and saw them sent straight through to the live shows, which were broadcast earlier this year.

“It was such a good experience,” said Winterbourne International Academy student Charlie. “It has opened up a lot of doors for us.

“I was very nervous for the final, there was a lot of pressure, but we treated it like all the other shows and wanted to get out there and enjoy ourselves - that was the main thing.”

After coming third in the show, behind runner-up Lucy Kay and winners Collabro, the pair were signed to Simon Cowell’s Syco record label on a one-single deal.

They released a video of Hopeful on July 7 and will release the single on July 27. It is available to pre-order now on iTunes.

Charlie, who lives at home in Frampton Cotterell with his mum Karen James and sister Brooke, 8, said it was ‘a dream come true’.

Bars and Melody have been appointed as ambassadors for Anti-Bullying Pro, a London-based charity against bullying.
