AN anti-bullying charity based in Yate is holding a fundraising football match later this month.

Bullywatch, founded by Yate mum Julie Oakley, is hosting the event for the third running and organisers hope it will raise enough money to fund a conference for local parents to find out how to tackly bullying.

Aek Boco and Stoke Lane Athletic under 12s will play each other on Sunday, August 31 (10.30am) at AEK Boco's home ground of Greenbank Road in Hanham.

Julie, who works at Chipping Sodbury School and won a Pride of Britain local hero award for her work in 2011, said: “I am asking if people would be willing to donate an item for the raffle or auction to help raise funds for an anti-bullying conference on how to tackle bullying.

“Bullywatch has been working for 13 years with schools, parents and the community to provide individual and group work to support victims and also challenge perpetrators to help change their behaviour.

“One in five young people admit to being bullied and as many as sixteen will take their own lives in any one year and thousands contemplate it.”

The event will be the charity’s main fundraiser this year as Julie has been receiving treatment for breast cancer.
