STROUD MP Neil Carmichael has secured a debate at Westminster on infrastructure investment in the Stroud Valleys and the Vale.

Following the reopening of the newly redoubled Swindon to Kemble railway line last Friday, secured by £45million of coalition government funding, Neil will be outlining the infrastructure needs over the next five years to ensure sustained economic growth and local jobs in Stroud and Gloucestershire.

As part of the work of the “Carmichael Commission” a number of other projects have been identified.

One such project is supplying funding for a new University Technical College at the Berkeley Green campus, a task championed by Mr Carmichael and Stroud & South Gloucestershire College.

Mr Carmichael also hopes to provide a new railway station in Stonehouse so that commuters can travel directly to Bristol without having to change at Swindon or Gloucester.

He also has plans to work on a Severn Crossing at Sharpness to reconnect communities and stimulate economic growth in the town.

Finally, the commission has plans to continue to work with and support the leadership of Gloucestershire County Council’s campaign calling for the A417 loop proposal to be included within the Highways Agency Strategy for delivery as soon as possible.

The debate will be taking place in Westminster Hall from 11am on Tuesday, October 21.
