A 59-YEAR-OLD man and his dog were rescued by Gloucestershire fire crews after a blaze broke out in flats.
At 12.12am this morning Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue service received several calls to a fire in Monkscroft Cheltenham.
Two pumps from Cheltenham East and Cheltenham West fire stations attended the incident.
Upon arrival firefighters located the source of the fire in a kitchen of a ground floor flat.
Firefighters swiftly rescued a 59 year old male and his dog from the smoke filled flat.
He was treated by fire crews and paramedics on scene for the effects of smoke inhalation and then taken to hospital for further assessment. The dog remained uninjured and was left in the care of a neighbour.
Firefighters used a hose reel and breathing apparatus to extinguish the fire, then extensively searched the other flats in the building to ensure the fire had not spread.
Crews were on scene for approximately one hour.
