A POPULAR Thornbury craft store will mark the second annual Yarn Shop Day tomorrow (May 2)

The Wool Stop in Thornbury will mark the day with a series of special events in stores whilst also raising money for charity.

The event has been organised by the crafting publications Let’s Knit and Let’s Get Crafting to celebrate independent wool shops across the country.

“We're very happy to be taking part,” said Tina Stephens owner of The Wool Stop. “Yarn crafting is really growing in popularity, and customers rely on their local yarn shop for more than just needles and wool. It's a place to get advice and to feel part of a crafting community.”

As well as promoting their crafts, a number of events will take place to raise money for Funding Neuro, a charity started in memory of Daisy, the daughter of Tina Stephens’ friend who died aged 7 from a Brain Stem Tumour.

She added: “We are looking forward to welcoming customers old and new through the door, and hope our local knitters and crocheters will get involved.”

Last year over 160 shops across the country took part in the day.

Money raised by Funding Neuro is given  to Bristol children’s hospital to help research into children’s cancer.
