A GROUP of talented photographers from Kingswood have been successful in a photography competition that awards youth engaged with the craft.

Three students from Kingswood Primary School were encouraged to find how well they had done in Cheltenham Camera Club’s Gloucestershire Young Photographer of the Year Competition.

Year 6 pupil Sam Green’s photograph ‘Puffin Heaven’ was awarded a commended certificate while Hannah Bigwood, also in year 6, and Oliver Beere, year 4, had their photographs ‘Fallow Deer’ and ‘I Wonder Where This Path Goes’ accepted to be displayed in the club’s exhibition.

The young photographer competition attracted 224 entries from 23 schools with just 16 children winning awards and 41 entries being accepted for display during the exhibition.

Sam and his family have been invited to the awards ceremony where he will receive his award from the mayor of Cheltenham at the Parabola Arts Centre on Saturday, May 9, as part of the camera club's annual exhibition.

The Gloucestershire Young Photographer exhibition will then be moved to Cheltenham Art Gallery and Museum and will be open from May 11 until May 21.
