A WOMAN and three teenagers escaped from a fire in a flat by jumping through a window before fire crews attended the scene in Bristol.

Fire crews were called to tackle a fire in a first floor flat in at Owen Street, in the Eastern area of Bristol, after a woman and four teenagers escaped through a window to safety.

Three fire engines from Temple Fire Station and Brislington Fire Station were called to the property at 11.01pm last night.

The calls suggested there were still people inside the property but on arrival crews found an adult and three teenagers had escaped by jumping approximately 12ft out of a window after being alerted of the fire by a smoke alarm.

They did not suffer any injuries as a result but were treated by an ambulance crew on scene for smoke inhalation and then taken to hospital as a precaution.

Fire fighters used a high pressure hose reel to tackle the fire which is thought to have been caused accidentally by a discarded cigarette which caught fire to bedding in the living room of the flat.
