STAFFING issues at Cam and Dursley’s Royal Mail office have led to post being late, not delivered or sent to the wrong address.

Royal Mail has issued a “sincere apology” to customers in the GL11 postcode, adding that it is doing what it can to resolve the matter.

Response on social media has been varied, with some people in the area raising concerns and noting examples of missing or delayed post, while others whole-heartedly praised the Royal Mail.

A week ago the Gazette received a call from a postal worker in the Cam and Dursley area. He wished to remain anonymous but claimed mail was going undelivered due to staffing issues, saying Ashmead and Everlands in Cam were suffering a particularly bad service.

When asked why mail was not being delivered, he said it was due to staffing issues at the Cam and Dursley distribution office in Draycott Business Park, Cam.

The Gazette was later informed that by Friday staff at the office were told not to speak to the press about any ongoing problems.

After putting a message out on Facebook, we were inundated with comments, both positive and negative.

Many people raised issues of inconsistent delivery times, not receiving important letters or parcels and receiving other people’s mail.

Some said deliveries could take months and others mentioned that problems were difficult to resolve with the distribution office itself not responding to issues quickly enough or appropriately.

Sue Clutterbuck recently moved from Coaley to Cam and said that she had personally seen no problems and praised the local Royal Mail for their hard work.

Mary McNally, of Dursley, said: “I have absolutely no complaints either for post to my home address or business address.

"In fact my posties are brilliant and go out of their way to do a fantastic job.”

The Royal Mail revealed that there are problems with staffing in the Cam and Dursley area and those with a GL11 postcode may be suffering as a result.

A spokesman for Royal Mail said “We sincerely apologise to any customers in the GL11 postcode area of Cam and Dursley who have been experiencing late and differing delivery times recently.

“We have been experiencing some staffing issues and we are currently recruiting.

"We put contingency plans in place to resolve the matter and we are focused on restoring our service to the high standards our customers would normally receive.

“Any customer who has concerns about their mail delivery should contact Royal Mail Customer Services on 03457 740740.”
