STRATEGIES for improving transport in Gloucestershire have been set out in the draft local transport plan put together by the county council.

Following an in-depth consultation held last year, the draft local transport plan (LTP) is going out to public consultation for the final time.

The updated draft plan outlines transport priorities across Gloucestershire for 2015 to 2031.

Priorities identified in the draft plan include working with Highways England for improvements to junctions on the M5 and Network Rail for enhancements to rail services and stations, including at Cam and Dursley Station.

Scheme priorities are broken down into short, medium and long term phases.

Improvements to the A38 Berkeley bridges and the B4066 corridor to Berkeley, including a roundabout linking the two roads, as well as better cycle provision are also prioritised for the Stroud district in the medium term.

Longer term ideas include the completion of the Dursley Relief Road and improvements to the junction of the A4315 and B4060 in Cam.

The draft LTP consists of several documents including; an overarching strategy, six transport mode policy documents and six delivery strategies. These can be found at bit.ly/1HipaD2

Cllr Will Windsor-Clive, cabinet member for planning and infrastructure, said: “We know from the consultation last year that people want to see ideas that will lessen the impact of traffic on our communities and improve travel choice.

“The draft local transport plan sets out the priorities for transport to enable sustainable economic growth and I’m looking forward to understanding people’s views on our draft priorities.”
