A WOMAN has been hit by a car in a serious crash on the A38, near Eastington.

The 82-year-old pedestrian was taken to hospital but has died.

The incident happened at around 11.50am today at Claypits, where a woman was hit by a car as she was crossing the A38.

She was hit by a Suzuki Swift as she was crossing the road.

The driver of the car, a woman, has been arrested on suspicion of driving over the drug limit.

A road closure is in place at Fromebridge roundabout and between Hill Top Garage and Eastington.

The road is closed both ways after the accident between A419 (Fromebridge Mill) and turn for Eastington (Cambridge).

It is affecting traffic from the roundabout for the Fromebridge Mill along to the Hill Top garage junction.

Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to contact police on 101 quoting incident 154 of April 14.
