THE main road through Dursley will be closed over the first weekend of September to allow resurfacing to take place.
A stretch of the A4135 between the junction with Water Street and just past the Bull Pitch roundabout onto the B4066 will be closed between 7.30am and 5.30pm on September 2 and 3.
With the road surface having “reached the end of its life” Gloucestershire County Council contractors will be resurfacing the road.
To avoid causing too much disruption, the council has scheduled the work to take place over a weekend.
The 65A bus service provided by Community Connections will run an alternative route on the Saturday and Stagecoach will announce details of any diversions for the Sunday 61 service at www.stagecoachbus.com
Cllr Vernon Smith, the council’s cabinet member for highways, said: “This is an important scheme for Dursley and is part of our ongoing commitment to invest in our roads.
“We appreciate this work may cause some disruption however it is important we complete this before schools go back the following week.
The signed diversion, which is suitable for all traffic, will guide motorists along the A38 and through Stonehouse and Nailsworth.
