Drug suspects arrested

SUSPECTS in Cam, Dursley and Wotton-under-Edge were amoung a large number arrested on suspicion of drug offences.

Police have dealt with 23 people for suspected drugs offences across the Cotswolds and Stroud division since the start of November.

Officers and detectives acting on intelligence information, but also carrying out regular patrols in the division, have made the arrests.

Suspected drugs were uncovered during routine stop checks on people whose behaviour had aroused suspicion, due to information from CCTV operators and in searches on suspects arrested for other offences.

One person was arrested on suspicion of cultivating cannabis, another on suspicion of supply of a class A drug, and the other 21 on suspicion of possession.

The drugs involved have mainly been cannabis, with suspected heroin and cocaine also recovered.

The arrests have taken place in Stroud, Stonehouse, Nailsworth, Cam, Minchinhampton, Cirencester, Dursley, Wotton-under-Edge and Fairford.

A total of 12 of the people involved have been cautioned, with another seven released on police bail pending further enquiries, the remaining four have all been charged and bailed to appear before the courts.

Chief Supt John Henry said: "We are very pleased to have made these arrests which have been largely due to the vigilance of our officers and CCTV operators.

"We hope that our commitment to arresting suspects will send a clear message to drug dealers and users that we will not tolerate this type of behaviour in our area.

"I have no doubt that these will not be the last arrests we make as we continue in our aim of making life for drug suppliers and takers as difficult as possible."
