Bream 1st XV 0, Dursley 1st XV 32
DURSLEY travelled to Bream last week and on an overcast and very windy day, the visitors finished the job they had tried two weeks earlier, but was abandoned for a broken leg to the Bream centre.
This time Dursley started the game well, tactical kicking by Lane saw Bream penned in their own half for sustained periods. Off a resulting line out Deakin stole a ball, a maul ensued and a break by Ian Brown saw him held short of the line.
Mark Perry then received a pass going out full tilt, he duly powered over to score Lane converting 0-7. Lane then added a penalty to the score. 0-10. Bream than started applying pressure to Dursley strong plays and phases saw the home side close in on a score, but a strong defence from all 15 which saw big tackles coming in for Allen, Perry, Christian and Scott.
Dursley ended the half with a score. Bream won their own line out inside their half, good pressure from flanker Scott saw their fly half slice his kick straight to his opposite number Lane, with a big hole in the defence now which their fly half Lane spirited clear and into the corner for a fine score, he also converted. 0-17. With five minutes to go a Bream player suffered another nasty injury breaking a bone in his neck. The referee called half time and the teams decided to change pitches.
The second half saw Dursley having to play up a very steep slope and Bream soon had Dursley on the rack. Strong tackling again from Park, Powell and Price saw the Bream attack fall apart. With the back row of Christian , Scott and Hull constantly pressurising the defence, holes started appearing. Firstly Perry, Stamp and Niblett (on for Deakin at half time) burst through the gain line, then Perkins off loaded to Lane who brought centre Jones flying through the Bream defence, Bream then killed the ball and conceded a penalty, Lane converting for 0-20.
Dursley then powered over to score a try, 0-25. Bream were now a beaten team, arguing ensued between players from the home side, then as the game wore on fights broke out over the pitch. Eventually a Bream player received a yellow card for punching.
Dursley responded well, determined to finish on a high, they were rewarded with an opportunist try from Lane who converted leaving 0-32 full time. Stand in captain, Scott, said he was pleased with the result and the manner it was played in. "It was an important result after the week before, a clean sheet away from home is always a good sign". Man of the match was number eight Nick Hull who was in the thick of the game all afternoon.
Tomorrow Dursley travel to Old Elizabethans.
