Council fight against apathy

KINGSWOOD Parish Council is to canvas potential new councillors in the run-up to election in June.

During Monday's meeting chairman Cllr David Hatton suggested the council should be more proactive in advertising the merits of becoming a councillor.

He added: "I do fear for the future of the council if we do not encourage people to stand for election."

One suggestion was that a letter should be sent to all residents, outlining the importance of the role and the merits of the job.

An open meeting has also been suggested and clerk Cath Holmes said she had been approached by Hillesley and Tresham Parish Council with a view to jointly investigating the prospect of one.

The council decided it should write to residents in the run-up to the election to encourage people to stand.
