Roman Glass 2 Wotton Rovers 1
WOTTON Rovers suffered a one goal defeat at the hands of Roman Glass but in truth the narrow result flattered them. Roman Glass never really looked in any danger and they had one striker causing a lot of problems for Rovers' defence with his pace and tricks.
A beatifully taken goal into the top corner set Roman Glass on their way after Wotton failed to clear their lines properly and within five minutes they had scored a second goal, this time bundled in by the right winger.
Straight after the break a good ball was floated in by Adam Eldridge, but Steve Nicholas was inches over the bar with an acrobatic volley.
With 15 minutes to go Nicholas was rewarded with a good goal when he flicked the ball up with one foot before volleying home with the other for a final result of 2-1.
Assistant manager Stuart Freeman, standing in for Jake O'Neill on Saturday, observed: "I was pleased with the work ethic in the second half, even though it took us 45 minutes to get going."
He added: "This Saturday we are home to bottom side Viney St Swithins, so this is a massive six pointer for us. We don't want to be involved in a relegation battle with Christmas coming up."
