Late drama seals fate

Mangotsfield 2 Redditch United 3

AFTER twice holding the lead against the Dr Martens Western Division leaders Mangotsfield United were eventually denied any points when they succumbed to a late goal.

This was new boss Martyn Grimshaw's first game in charge and he must have been disappointed at a seemingly harsh penalty decision against Jason Drysdale 25 minutes from the end after a tackle on Richard Leadbeater, which yielded an equaliser for Redditch and also led to Drysdale being sent off for foul and abusive language.

A quick throw-in had enabled striker Darren Edwards to put Mangotsfield into the lead midway through the first half but this was cancelled out when Alex Cowley beat home keeper Danny Greaves after a good solo run.

But Edwards again gave Mangotsfield the lead with a lofted ball over the keeper, only for Matt Hall to equalise from the penalty spot.

Then with five minutes to go Redditch took all three points when Cowley scored a second, this time from close range.
