Post Office arrogance is 'beyond belief'

SIR - So Post Office Counters appears to think that Thornbury should be thanking its lucky stars it still has one post office!

I could not believe what I was reading in last week's Gazette.

Closure of Gillingstool sub-post office has necessarily resulted in customers having to go elsewhere and it ought to have been patently obvious that the remaining office would require more room - not less.

Skating lightly and effortlessly over justified grumbles about long queues and inadequate space, the spokesman is quoted as saying: "The good news is that Thornbury still has its post office."

Such arrogance is beyond belief, as is the seeming, complete lack of intention to respond by action to the complaints.

I suggest Thornbury organises a massive town petition, involves Northavon MP Steve Webb and take to the streets in protest.

Thornbury ought at the very least to have what it used to have - a proper Crown post office. Failing that there is a case for not just re-establishing Gillingstool but expanding the service (though this hardly seems the right word) elsewhere too.

K Bleadon, Thornbury.
