All aboard for a new game

THE BOARD game Monopoly has for a long time been a family favourite during the festive period.

Back in October famous Gloucestershire landmarks were immortalised in the county's own edition of the popular game.

And as people recover from eating too much turkey, or drinking too much mulled wine, the Gazette is offering six lucky readers the opportunity to win their very own copy of the game.

Many prominent county landmarks - including the Tyndale Monument in North Nibley - fought hard to feature on the new Gloucestershire Monopoly.

The coveted top £400 spot, Mayfair in the original London version, was given to Gloucester Cathedral closely followed by Cheltenham Racecourse in the original Park Lane spot.

Winning Moves - the company licensed to produce regional editions of the board - said it tried to reflect the spirit and feel of the county in its careful choice of places for the board.

Public poles were held to decide which places should appear where on the board. Winning Moves spokesman Graham Barnes said: "The board reflects the essence and spirit of Gloucestershire. The launch in October ended months of polling - and speculation - after county folk were asked what should take pride of place on the board."

County residences from the world of arts, sport, business and leisure replace celebrated London streets like Mayfair, Trafalgar Square and Old Kent Road. Gloucestershire Airport, the University of Gloucestershire and Gloucestershire County Council occupy other squares.

All you have to do to get your hands on one of the Gazette's six games is to answer the following question:

When was the Gloucestershire version of Monopoly launched?

Send your answer together with your name, address and a daytime telephone number to: Monopoly Competition, The Gazette, Reliance House, Long Street, Dursley, GL11 4LS to arrive by Monday, January 5. The usual Newsquest competition rules apply.
