Hunting for points

Brimscombe and Thrupp 2, Berkeley Town 2

AFTER a disappointing result the week before against Cam, Berkeley knew that they had to get something from the game at Brimscombe.

Town started very sloppy and it didn't take Brimscombe to make Town pay for their sloppiness.

After just ten minutes they struck first with a 25 yard shot which beat the left hand of Town keeper Stevenson. Town saw this as a shock to the system and they soon started to settle. Langford and Sherman started to get more involved and Sherman was unlucky not to score when he rattled they bar from the edge of the box.

After 30 minutes Town were level when Langford beat three defenders and curled an unstoppable left foot shot in off the post. Town were only level for five minutes when some poor defending from Beames and Britton lead to the Brimscombe forward being brought down in the box by Lavis. The Brimscombe forward kept his nerve and coolly beat Stevenson.

After a half time telling off Town knew that had to step up a gear. The second half was very evenly match with chances falling to both sides but both failing to capitalise. The scores stayed the same until five minutes before time when Lavis took a quick free kick to Matty Lyon who whipped the ball across the box for Stevenson to ram home from 12 yards and earn Town a point.

In the end a well earned point for Berkeley Town but a better performance surely would have given them three points. Manager, Buddy Stevenson, was happy to take something away from the game and he added: "It wasn't a great performance but we just needed to get something after last weeks disappointment. We can now just concentrate on next week by getting three valuable points."

Tomorrow Berkeley Town are at home to Harrow Hill (kick off 2.30pm) and all support would be welcome.
