Bells mark event

THE BELLS rang out in Dursley on New Year's Eve to mark the Gazette's 125th anniversary year.

Ringers successfully completed a quarter peal of Cambridge Surprise Major after having to give up on a previous occasion.

The 1,250 changes were run at the Parish Church of St James the Great in 44 minutes.

Ringers were: 1 Elizabeth Byrne (Dursley), 2 John Taylor (Dursley), 3 Jane Bull (Dursley), 4 Jonathan Adkins (Tetbury), 5 Frank Byrne (Dursley), 6 Andrew Binstead (Stone), 7 Philip Pope (Dursley), 8 Ian Unsworth (conductor, Dursley)
