INSPIRED by reminiscing over the Gazette's 125th year anniversary supplement, a life-long Dursley resident has unearthed some photographs of bygone sports teams.
Jenny Workman, of Cambridge Avenue, asked the Gazette to publish the old photographs, that belonged to her late mother, to see if anyone else still living in the town recognised any of her father's team-mates. He is pictured in the bottom right of the cricket team.
But, she said she also recognises other members of the team.
"My father played cricket for Dursley and during his time with the club he scored a century," she added. "In the middle of the photograph is Charlie Wintle. I remember well his shop in Long Street."
Ms Workman said the shop had a sawdust-covered floor and Mr Wintle used to deliver groceries to her grandmother in The Fox and Goose, Halmore.
"I expect Dursley people may well see the photograph and be able to pick their grandfathers from among the players," added Ms Workman.
Her father also played in Cam Mills' football Team. In the photograph he is pictured four from the left on the top row.
Added Ms Workman: "Holding the cup is my father's friend Don Cox - interestingly he was the father of former Gazette editor John Cox, who I went to school with at the old Dursley Grammar School."
