A hit with the kids for Shore

FORMER England youth international Jamie Shore has been the toast of the region's junior football scene over the Christmas period, having seen his coaching programme mature into a renowned sporting scheme.

Jamie Shore Soccer Schools is already a respected and sought-after coaching practice and now, thanks to its growing reputation, the school is to be featured in this January's edition of national football magazine Four-Four-Two.

Ex-Norwich City and Bristol Rovers star Shore has turned his enterprise into a highly popular training outfit thanks to the recruitment of some top coaches as well as the use of facilities such as Yate Town's home ground at Lodge Road.

Indeed, Jamie Shore Soccer Schools (JSSS) has been delivering a high standard of football coaching to children using ex-Premier League players, who are able to pass on the knowledge and experience gained during their careers.

The aim of the school is to provide young players who wish to work on their technical and tactical development a number of easily accessible venues, giving them the opportunity to achieve their potential by receiving high level coaching from experienced ex-professionals who now work as coaches.

In designing his coaching methods, Shore has implemented many of the principles that he learned at the FA National School at Lillishall, where he spent two years between the ages of 14 and 16 utilising SAQ (Speed, Agility, Quickness) methods as a warm-up (running over quick feet ladders and small hurdles), to enhance and develop the various essentials such as balance and co-ordination.

After pupils have been through this, the real training will begin, concentrating on the various composites required to configure a well-rounded football player. Lillishall has seen many top players emerge as a result of these methods, including Michael Owen, Sol Campbell, Wes Brown, Jamie Carragher and Joe Cole.

Among the coaches that Shore has recruited to be a part of his programme are old friends Michael Meaker, the former QPR and Reading striker, and Gary Owers, once of Sunderland and the current manager of Bath City. Also on board are Mommainais Bokoto, an ex-French Premier League professional, Dean Smith, a former West Ham United trainee, former Bournemouth player Marc Canham, as well as David Horseman, a one-time Bristol City academy player. The school's goalkeeping coach is Genevieve Reid, the Bristol City womens team keeper.

Shore is also looking for young footballers to be a part of the South Gloucestershire representative teams, for which there are three development centres:

The success that Shore has enjoyed now enables JSSS to run three Advanced Football Training Centres in the Bristol area for children from seven to eleven years of age, with highly experienced staff from within the football world to impart their knowledge.

The courses include the use of state of the art SAQ equipment as used by top professionals within all physical sports. As well as improving soccer skills, the courses are aimed at raising general physical ability and, most importantly, they are enjoyable and good fun.
