A trip through the day

FOLLOWING her successful exhibition at Under the Edge Arts, Wotton-under-Edge's arts centre, artist Jill Davies has been thrilled with the way her career has flourished.

She has since exhibited her work with Spike Island Printmakers at The Royal West of England Academy in Bristol and currently has an exhibition running at The Helios Medical Centre, Stoke Hill, Bristol. Her future plans include a group show at The Guild in the city.

Her three paintings of Wotton Hill, known as the "Wotton triptych - morning, afternoon and night", have been accepted by Wotton Town Council for public display.

Town Mayor Cllr Chris Galbraith said: "The painting is really appealing. It's nice to support local artists and this picture will be available for local people to see. It's also good to have some modern art on show."

Jill, from Wotton, was also pleased to be approached by Carl Rebbeck, of Wycliffe Gallery, Wotton, which has consequently produced a limited edition of prints of the triptych, as well as prints of two other paintings by Jill. These can be seen in the gallery's window in Long Street.

Jill said: "My association with Under the Edge Arts has had a very positive effect on my work.

"As a new artist, it has been so important for me to make contacts with interested people in the area and to have such a great venue in which to show my work. The Chipping Hall attracts a lot of people as it is so well located.

"The new website gives me another place in which to showcase my work too.

"It is a great pleasure for me to loan the triptych to the town council and wonderful for me to think that it can now be shared with the people of Wotton, rather than being hidden away in my loft!"
