No to town transfer

DURSLEY is safe in Stroud constituency.

Calls by Minchinhampton Parish Council that the town should be considered for transfer instead have been rejected.

Minchinhampton will go into neighbouring Cotswold probably at the General Election after next. The constutunecy will be renamed The Cotswold County constituency.

The Boundary Commission for England, tasked with reviewing balancing electoral populations, has made its final recommendation that the parish should be moved.

Stressing the finality of the ruling, Gerald Tessier, the commission's review area manager for Gloucestershire, said: "The commission is not going to change its recommendation. It does have to go before parliament but it is unlikely to change it."
