High winds batter Berkeley

BERKELEY took a battering from high winds that swept across the district at the weekend.

Fire crews were scrambled to two separate incidents in the town within an hour-and-a-half as the storm took hold on Saturday night.

A tree fell on a car in Stock Lane around 5.30pm. No one was injured.

One fire crew from Dursley attended and was detained for some time ensuring the area was safe.

At 7pm Dursley firefighters were called out again as trees fell into the road in Sanigar Lane, bringing down telegraph poles and electricity cables.

The crew remained at the scene for some time to ensure there was no risk to the public.
