Sparring contest helps hall

DURSLEY and Wotton-under-Edge Tae Kwon Do clubs put their skills to the test recently by sparring for three hours non-stop in order to raise money for the hall where they train.

Stinchcombe Village Hall is very much in need of some restoration, and the martial arts students got friends and family to sponsor them for the event.

Sparring is a form of boxing with the hands and legs, and is a great way to get fit and have some fun with others. Among the students, the very young and the not-so-young proved that they have what it takes to keep their guard up and fight the night away!

The students managed to raise £266 and a cheque was later presented on Sunday, February 1, to the new chairman of the hall, Mr Bartlamb, who thanked them for their hard work and effort. Karen Parker, instructor for the day, said she was incredibly proud of the students for having supported a community project.
