Staff and pupils of Tortworth Primary School celebrate a good report from Ofsted GSR61H04

TORTWORTH Primary School is celebrating after being placed among the top ten percent in the country.

The school was singled out for special praise in the annual Ofstead report by chief inspector of schools David Bell.

Tortworth is among 293 schools listed as particularly successful - receiving outstanding inspection reports and performing well in national tests - out of a total of 3,041 primary schools inspected during 2002-03.

Mr Bell said the schools on the list stood out as have done particularly well on virtually all fronts.

"I heartily congratulate the head teachers, staff governors and pupils of the all the successful schools named in my annual report on their success and hard work in delivering such a high standard of education" he said.

Acting head Kay Pettifer said: "It's tribute to everyone connected with the school but especially the hard working staff."
