Pancake race was 'the best'

THE BEST - that is the verdict on Tuesday's pancake race organised by Dursley and District Chamber of Trade and Commerce.

Despite drizzling rain two dozen runners, several in fancy dress, lined up with frying pans and pancakes to race up Parsonage Street and back.

As well as individual entries, a number of Dursley businesses entered teams. Among them were The Coffee Shop, in Long Street, with runners dressed as French waitresses, and the Gazette.

The eventual winner was Trevor Rumbelow, of Lloyds TSB Bank, who was presented with a trophy by chamber of trade president Peter Jones.

After the event Mr Jones said: "There were 24 runners and loads of spectators. It was great fun and the best pancake race we have held. We also raised £70 for Dursley Open Door Club.

"Hopefully next year's event will be just as successful."
