Glass house for 'yobs and vandals' to throw stones at?

SIR - I think this is the first time I've written to the Gazette, but I feel I need to speak out against the granting of planning permission for the new Dursley library.

The first point I would make is, if Dursley town council had put forward a plan like that, would they have been granted permission to build?

Secondly, just across the road from the library is a building that cannot be demolished because it has a listed doorway built into it. Just a few hundred yards away The Weaver's House is having over £250,000 spent on it to restore it to its original state. What is the point when we are having a building totally out of keeping with the character of the town foisted on us?

But, all is not lost. I believe I have the answer. The glass house is being built so that the yobs and vandals have the perfect building to kick in the windows. They won't need to go down the street to vandalise the shops. Well done, Gloucestershire County Council!

I can now see the reason for the extra council tax - so that the police can utilise its extra manpower to police the new library.
